If you are moving internationally, in particular to Australia or New Zealand, you will have to make sure that any outdoor items that you are taking with you are spotlessly clean. This also applies to shoes which may have dirt or mud on the soles of the shoe.
Outdoor items that need to be cleaned include:
- Bicycles
- Gardening tools and equipment
- Chidren’s outdoor play equipment
- Outdoor furniture
- Golf clubs and golf trolleys
This is not a comprehensive list. Any item that has been outdoors and may contain soil or dirt will need to be cleaned thoroughly before being shipped.
The most effective way to clean outdoor items is to firstly wash away any visible dirt with warm, soapy water. Then clean thoroughly using a disinfectant such as Jeyes fluid or Milton.
In order to clean your shoes properly, firstly scrape away the visible dirt on the sole of the shoe. Secondly, dip and old toothbrush into some Milton sterilising fluid and gently brush this over and around the soles of the shoe. Ladies may regret having that large shoe collection now!
Although this can be time consuming, it is a necessary part of your pre-move preparation. Your shipment will be subject to a Customs and Quarantine inspection at destination, therefore the instructions above must be followed. If you require any further information about preparing for your move, your Move Manager will be able to help and advise you.
