There has been an unprecedented increase in UK residents looking to move to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), brand-new research reveals.
John Mason International Movers has reported a whopping 420% increase over the last five years in enquiries from British nationals wanting to relocate to the UAE. This trend was particularly noticeable in the past 12 months, with the company citing a 45% surge.
Research also highlighted a 50% year-on-year rise in online searches for ‘move to Dubai’ and ‘jobs in Dubai’ from people in the United Kingdom.
There are currently more than 240,000 British expats estimated to live in Dubai alone, as well as over 5,000 British companies operating in the UAE. According to the Expat Insider 2023 report, the UAE is the third-most-popular country of residence for expats.
The UAE’s lucrative career paths, comprehensive employment benefits, tax-free income, and a high-quality lifestyle are drawing this growing number of professionals and families.
Michael Thompson, 37, who relocated in December 2023 from Oldham to Dubai with his family, said: “Our move to Dubai was driven by the pursuit of better employment opportunities and the numerous benefits of living here. The vibrant, tax-free economy and exceptional international schools present a unique environment for both personal and professional growth. Securing a job in IT within a year of my search is a testament to the abundant opportunities in Dubai.”
The UAE is also recognised for its safety and low crime rates — Numbeo’s 2023 Safety Index ranked it as the second-safest country out of 163 nations. Additionally, the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi was named the safest city in the world!
Simon Hood, Director at John Mason International Movers, said: “The allure of the UAE, especially for the UK’s younger generation, is unmistakable. As a company handling approximately 10,000 international moves each year, we are at the forefront of this shift.
“The UAE offers a different take on work-life balance compared to the UK, with a professional environment that includes generous holiday allowances and a cultural appreciation for leisure and family time. This aspect is essential for UK residents seeking a balanced life where work doesn’t dominate personal and family time.”
