If you’re thinking of moving abroad and are tempted by the United States but you aren’t sure about
the lack of free health care or the limited annual holiday, then think again, here are our top 10 reasons to move to the USA:
1. Space
Given that the USA is much bigger than Britain – the whole of England could roughly fit into
New York State alone, there is generally more space and therefore less traffic congestion,
depending on the city of course.
2. Affordable Housing
With all that space it means that housing in the USA is that much more affordable, especially
as the pound is strong against the dollar at the moment.
3. Nature
From the desert in California to the swamps of the Deep South and the depths of the Grand
Canyon – America has such a vast array of terrain, it makes Britain look rather bland. That’s
before we even get onto the hundreds of different plants and animals native to America – if
it’s nature you’re after, you will find plenty beautiful scenery in the USA.
4. Fuel
Here in the UK we pay some of the highest prices in the world for petrol and diesel, head to
the USA however and it’s a whole other story. Take the East Coast of America for example,
where the cost of petrol is around £0.38 per litre.
5. Education
Take a look at the QS rankings of top universities in the world and you’ll find that six of them
are American with the top position going to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the
only downside is the cost as the fees can be quite expensive.
6. Weather
Yes America does have much more extreme weather than England and not always the sort
you want, but you’re also much more like to experience proper seasons. Take New York for
example where you can experience cold winters, hot summers, golden autumns and fresh springs.
7. Food
If there is one thing that America knows how to do then it is food. From the health conscious
raw and pressed brigade in LA and the the slow and low BBQ to the chicken and waffles of
Brooklyn and the gumbo of the Deep South, America definitely knows how to put on a feast.
8. English Speaking
You won’t need to worry about language barriers if you are a British expat moving to the US.
9. Shopping
The US is full of shopping malls and don’t forget the outlet villages where you can get some
great bargains.
10. Activities
There are so many varied activities to take part in across the country – from white water
rafting and surfing to skiing and riding across the Great Plains. If you are looking for
entertainment, head to Vegas, Reno or Disneyland.
