Back in May 2021 John Mason International launched an ambitious apprenticeship programme in search of new talent to join its specialist international removals and shipping operation.
Confirming its commitment to developing future industry stars, the international removals expert looked to appoint trainees in a range of disciplines at its head office in Merseyside.
‘We are thrilled to be inviting applications from those seeking an exciting new career in this dynamic and fast-moving industry,” stated John Mason International director, Simon Hood.
“This is our opportunity to invest in the future of young people who want to be part of a hard-working, supportive, and close-knit team. It’s also about the future of John Mason International, which has a rich history and was founded here in Liverpool in 1884.
“Now, as one of the largest businesses in our field, we are looking ahead and have ambitious plans – post-lockdown – to help the country get moving again. And we’re searching for talented individuals to help us do just that.”
Apprenticeships are available in the following roles:
Warehouse Operative level 2 (12 month duration)
As a warehouse apprentice, you’ll be responsible for loading and unloading containers, maintaining a clean and organised site, and performing various other tasks that keep our warehouse running smoothly. After successfully completing your probation period, you’ll also have the opportunity to obtain a Forklift Truck Driving License. This role is ideal for those who enjoy physically active work and have a keen interest in logistics.
Removals Operative level 2 (12 month duration) As part of our removals crew, you’ll learn how to pack, load, and transport customers’ belongings for international moves. This role involves hands-on work and early starts, requiring a strong work ethic and physical fitness. You’ll gain expertise in export packing, secure loading, and customer service—all essential skills for a successful career in removals.
International Freight Forwarding Specialist level 3 (18 month duration).
The processing of international trade documentation is vital to the UK economy and the demand for international trade skills is forecast to rise. John Mason International is seeking trainee specialists who will, in future, implement these processes.
Business Administrator level 3 (18 month duration)
Operating a leading overseas removals specialist like John Mason International requires a team of administrators who have exceptional organisational and communications skills. The company is looking for individuals who have the potential to develop into invaluable colleagues with high ambitions, not only for themselves – but for the business as a whole.
Customer Service level 2 (12 months duration)
The actions of this individual will, in future, influence the experience and satisfaction of John Mason International’s customers. This is a vital role with the potential to impact substantially on the company’s reputation as a leader in its field.
Customer Service Specialist level 3 ( 15 months duration)
An advocate of customer service, this individual will train to become a referral point for dealing with more complex or technical client requests and queries. Becoming an expert in John Mason International’s services, the successful applicant will later share their substantial knowledge with their wider team and colleagues.
“These exciting new roles mark the very beginning of our extensive apprenticeship programme – which will see John Mason International recruit up to five apprentices each year,” added Simon.
“We are partnering with Knowsley Council to recruit these future stars – and we will also be working closely with local schools to offer careers advice, and encourage young people into the international removals sector.
“The council has ambitious plans for employment and enhancing skills for those taking on apprenticeships, work placements and other opportunities – and we are very pleased John Mason International is setting this example to other businesses in the region.
“We are also offering apprenticeships to any of our existing colleagues who are keen to develop their skills and progress their careers.”
Real Success Stories
Our apprenticeships are designed to provide more than just qualifications; they are a gateway to lasting careers. Many of our past apprentices have gone on to secure full-time positions within John Mason or moved into other industries. For example, one former warehouse apprentice earned his forklift truck license and now works for the local council. Another apprentice completed a Level 3 Shipping & Freight Forwarding qualification and secured a permanent role in our admin team. We’ve also seen former apprentices successfully transition into roles in property and other sectors, thanks to the solid foundation they built during their time with us.
Why Join Us?
