The United Arab Emirates presents economic benefits and employment opportunities for skilled workers around the world. We take a look at some key industries in this country.
Oil & Gas
Abu Dhabi is one of the main cities in the Middle East employing oil and gas personnel. According to the recruitment company NES Global, Abu Dhabi is looking to double oil production over the next six years. The Upper Zakum project requires workers in the fields of project management, construction, health and safety, logistics and engineers among others.
Bearing in mind a recent Mercer Global Consultancy study has reported that the Oil and Gas industry is experiencing a talent shortage (Mercer, May 2014) means that more and more opportunities could be opening up abroad as organisations widen their search for the skilled workers they require.
Tourism
Tourism is a contributor to the economy of the UAE and therefore hospitality employment opportunities can become available. Numerous luxury hotels and resorts are located in Dubai in particular. The World Expo to be held in Dubai in 2020 means that many more visitors are expected as Dubai positions continues to position itself as a global hub.
IT & Finance
As the UAE has successfully managed to diversify its economy from being mainly Oil and Gas export dependent, opportunities in the service industry are now available. IT and Finance in particular are key industries. Dubai International Finance Centre, Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City have been constructed in order to support these industries and encourage investment.
Construction
As growing modern cities, Abu Dhabi and Dubai both have a booming construction industry. Although it slowed down during the Global Economic Recession, the industry now shows signs of recovery with new construction projects being announced on a regular basis. One major project of course is the 2020 World Expo site which will be located at Jebel Ali. Work is due to begin in 2015 and continue until 2019.
