Moving to Chile: Import Regulations
Non Chileans / Non Citizens of Chile must have a visa based contract temporary visa for a time period of a minimum of one year. In this case, the shipper may import up to USD 5000.00 FOB (customs nominal value) at 1% duty (based on the CIF value). If you are importing a shipment with a value higher than USD 5000.00 FOB, this will be subject to customs duties. Please contact your Move Manager for specific advice relating to your personal circumstances.
Importing New Furniture and Household Goods to Chile
If you are importing new furniture and household goods into Chile as part of your shipment (furniture which has not been previously owned and used), this will be subject to additional value tax (IVA) in Chile and customs duty.
Chilean Citizens returning from a period overseas
Chilean nationals who have been residing overseas for a minimum of six months (uninterrupted) will be required to pay an importation franchise fee and taxation. Please contact your Move Manager for the exact fee for your shipment if this applies to you. Please note that this is not payable if the shipper is retiring (re-importation is free in this case). All owned and used household goods can be imported duty free.
