Freemantle Port Import delays

The latest update from the British Association of Removers highlights continued disruption across global shipping routes, with the Middle East conflict having a significant impact on international moves.

Middle East Shipments Currently Suspended

Shipping lines have confirmed that new shipments to the Middle East are currently suspended following ongoing conflict in the region.

For shipments already in transit, some containers have been discharged at alternative ports under shipping terms such as Force Majeure. This means the shipping line has fulfilled its contract, and any further movement of the container may incur additional costs.

What This Means for Your Move

If you are planning an international move, particularly to or via the Middle East, you may experience:

• Delays or rerouting of your shipment
• Longer transit times
• Additional charges after booking
• Limited availability of shipping services

Even alternative routes may carry risk, as the situation continues to evolve.

Rising Costs and Surcharges

Shipping lines are introducing additional charges, including:

War Risk Surcharges
Emergency fuel (bunker) surcharges

These can be applied at short notice and may not have been included in your original quotation.

Ongoing Global Delays

Outside of the Middle East, global shipping is still facing challenges:

  • Port congestion across Europe and Asia
  • Containers being rolled to later vessels
  • Reduced capacity on some routes
  • Longer and less predictable transit times

For example, a shipment from the UK to Australia can currently take anywhere between 56 and 89 days, depending on the vessel and routing.

Planning Your International Move

Despite these challenges, international moves are continuing successfully.

The best way to minimise disruption is to:

• Plan your move as early as possible
• Stay flexible with shipping dates
• Work with an experienced international mover

At John Mason International, we monitor global shipping conditions daily and will always keep you informed if anything changes.
