When December rolls around, and the jingling of sleigh bells fills the Wirral air, it’s not just Santa spreading festive cheer – it’s the incredible volunteers of the 7th Bebington Scouts. Each year, their iconic Santa Sleigh tours local streets, delighting children and families while raising much-needed funds for community causes across the region.

Santa’s Helpers with Heart and Holiday Cheer

The Scouts’ Santa Sleigh is a heart-warming tradition that goes beyond being just a festive float – it’s a beacon of joy and generosity brought to life by the young people and leaders of the 7th Bebington Scouts. This beloved sleigh was lovingly handed down from the Wirral Lions Club and has been embraced by the Scouts, who carry forward the mission of spreading smiles and holiday cheer across thousands of households while raising funds for Scouts and local causes.

This year, they’re thrilled to support The Martin Gallier Project (2025 chosen charity), a pioneering local organisation dedicated to preventing suicide, breaking down stigma, and helping families through suicidal crises so no one faces it alone. Each evening in December, the sleigh glides through the streets adorned with twinkling lights, with Scouts ringing bells and Santa himself offering hearty greetings. For many families, it’s a cherished event, a chance to step out in their slippers, wave to Santa, and bask in the true spirit of Christmas. Behind its sparkle, every penny raised supports Scouts’ activities, The Martin Gallier Project’s essential work, and other vital local charities, fuelling the fantastic efforts these young helpers do throughout the year.

Safe and Sound: Year-Round Care for the Sleigh

What makes the whole operation even more special is the teamwork behind the scenes. While the sleigh dazzles the streets in December, it spends the rest of the year securely stored and carefully maintained in John Mason International’s indoor warehouse. This year-round care ensures the sleigh stays in perfect condition, ready to shine again when the holiday season returns. This vital support allows the Scouts to focus fully on their joyful mission of spreading Christmas cheer and raising funds, knowing the sleigh is well looked after between its magical missions. After all, even Santa’s sleigh deserves a little rest and care once the Christmas rush is over.
