Moving to Brazil

Career Opportunities in Brazil

Brazil’s vast and diversified economy offers opportunities in sectors such as energy, agribusiness, finance, technology, and creative industries, particularly in major hubs like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and Porto Alegre. English-speaking professionals may find roles in multinational corporations, shared service centres, remote positions with overseas employers, or teaching and consultancy work. A move from the UK to Brazil can appeal to those seeking a dynamic work culture, exposure to emerging markets, and a base for remote or hybrid careers across Latin America.

Studying in Brazil

Brazil hosts well-regarded universities such as the University of São Paulo (USP), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), offering a broad mix of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. International students benefit from Portuguese-language immersion, research opportunities in areas like engineering, environmental sciences, and social studies, and access to vibrant cultural life, from music and festivals to sport. Those using relocation services to Brazil can combine academic and professional development with the chance to experience one of South America’s most influential and diverse countries.

Leisure Activities and Things to Do in Brazil

Social and Everyday Leisure

Daily leisure often centres around cafés, neighbourhood bakeries, and relaxed bar culture, where people meet for coffee, snacks, and after‑work drinks. Expats frequently join local sports like football, volleyball, capoeira, or running groups, which makes it easier to build friendships and practise Portuguese in a natural setting. Shopping centres with cinemas, restaurants, and family-friendly events are also popular places to spend evenings and weekends, especially in larger cities.

Culture, Music and Festivals

Leisure time in Brazil is closely tied to music and cultural events, with live samba, bossa nova, forró, and funk performances in bars, cultural centres, and open-air venues. Throughout the year, cities and towns host festivals, street parties, and community celebrations, with Carnival and São João being among the most famous, offering colourful parades, costumes, and dancing. Many expats also enjoy exploring museums, historic neighbourhoods, and street art, using leisure time to get to know Brazil’s diverse regional traditions and contemporary culture.

Outdoor Life and Short Breaks

Brazil’s climate supports an active outdoor lifestyle, from early-morning beach walks and stand-up paddleboarding to surfing and casual games of beach football. Many residents make the most of nearby parks and urban forests for hiking, cycling, and picnics, enjoying viewpoints over the city or coastline. Weekends often mean day trips or short breaks to islands, waterfalls, or countryside pousadas, where visitors can swim, relax in nature, and enjoy traditional barbecues.

Importing your Household Goods into Brazil

You must have a residence visa in place in order to clear your goods through customs in Brazil.

We are not able to ship your items if you do not have a visa as the goods will not be able to enter the country and port / airport fees will be charged by the port authorities.

You must be in the country for your goods to clear customs. In addition, Brazilian law requires that the shipment arrives in Brazil no longer than six months after the shipper has arrived in the country.

Your Move Manager will need the following documents from you in order to clear customs in Brazil:

  • Customer ID card or protocol, Brazilian Social Security (CIC ) or protocol.
  • Power of attorney.

The above documents are needed in order for your Move Manager to perform the pre-registration (credenciamento) with the Customs Authorities in Brazil.

Where in Brazil are you moving to?

Brasília suits government, diplomacy, or tech professionals with its modern, planned layout, wide avenues, and secure residential sectors like Asa Sul and Nobile. Expats enjoy high-quality infrastructure, international schools, excellent healthcare, and green spaces such as Parque da Cidade for weekend leisure. The stable climate and central location make it ideal for families or those seeking a quieter, organised urban life away from coastal hustle, while still offering cultural events and easy domestic travel.

Known as Brazil’s ‘Magic Island’, Florianópolis combines stunning beaches with a high quality of life in areas like Lagoa da Conceição and Jurerê Internacional. It’s popular with tech professionals, digital nomads, and families due to its safe, walkable communities, kitesurfing spots, hiking trails, and strong startup scene. The temperate climate and natural beauty make it a top pick for expats wanting outdoor living without big-city hustle.

Rio appeals to those seeking beachside living with a creative vibe, particularly in expat-friendly areas such as Leblon, Ipanema, and Joatinga. These neighbourhoods feature luxury condos with ocean views, proximity to top beaches, and a lively mix of restaurants, bars, and cultural events. Families appreciate international schools and green spaces, while remote workers enjoy the laid-back yet dynamic lifestyle overlooking Sugarloaf and Christ the Redeemer.

As Brazil’s economic powerhouse, São Paulo attracts professionals in finance, tech, and marketing to neighbourhoods like Vila Nova Conceição, Moema, and Jardins. These areas offer high-rise apartments, international schools, trendy cafés, and easy access to business districts, while remaining close to parks like Ibirapuera for weekend leisure. It’s ideal for ambitious expats who want urban energy and a cosmopolitan feel.
