Before your travel, there are things you can do to prepare your pet for your relocation to the UAE, such as:
We never advise the use of tranquilisers and sedatives before travel, as they can be extremely dangerous, affecting your pet’s respiratory system during the flight.
Relocating your pet to the UAE can incur various costs; however, this will depend on your unique circumstances. To provide you with an accurate quote, we consider the following:
We’ll provide you with a fully transparent quote before confirming your relocation plan. With our guarantee of no hidden fees, you can be confident that the price you’re quoted is exactly what you’ll pay.
Navigating the requirements for your pet’s relocation may seem a little intense, but we’re here to make it simple. We’ve created this guide that walks you through all the regulations for your pet’s journey to the UAE.
Microchipping your pet is the very first step in the relocation process and a mandatory form of identification. It must be implanted by a qualified veterinarian before any vaccinations are given.
Your pet’s unique microchip number will be required on all official documents, including vaccination certificates and the final health certificate.
Pets require specific vaccinations for entry into the UAE:
Rabies: A valid rabies vaccination must be administered at least 21 days prior to travel.
Dogs: Also require vaccinations for DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus) and Leptospirosis.
Cats: Require the FVRCP vaccination (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia).
Parasite Treatment: A final treatment for both internal and external parasites must be administered by a veterinarian during the final health examination, within 24 hours of departure.
All vaccinations must be properly documented and linked to your pet’s microchip.
A pet import permit is a critical document for your pet’s entry into the UAE. Issued by the MOCCAE, this permit must be secured before your pet travels. Without a valid permit, your pet will not be allowed to enter the country.
The UAE has banned some dog breeds from entering the country, including:
Currently, there are no bans on domestic cat breeds for relocation into the UAE. However, it’s best to check with your chosen airline for any restrictions they may have in place.
To ensure your pet’s comfort and safety during relocation, a suitable travel crate is essential. The crate must be IATA-compliant, meaning it’s constructed from a rigid material and provides appropriate ventilation. Most importantly, it must be properly sized so your pet can stand, sit, turn around, and lie down in a natural position.
Within 24 hours of departure, an Official Veterinarian will perform a final health check on your pet. During this appointment, they will provide a completed International Health Certificate. You’ll need to have this and all other documents, including your pet’s microchip, vaccination records, and the import permit, organised and ready for inspection upon arrival in the UAE.

At John Mason International, our expertise extends beyond pet relocation. We offer a wide selection of relocation services to the UAE, including:
Yes, travelling in the cargo area is considered a safe method for pet relocation. Unlike the luggage hold, the pet-specific cargo area is a pressurised, temperature-controlled and well-ventilated space, just like the main cabin. Ensuring your pet’s comfort and safety throughout the entire flight.
No, your pet will not have to go into quarantine. As long as you have met all the requirements listed in our section above, your pet will be cleared for travel without delay.
We don’t offer a real-time GPS tracking service for your pets. However, our ‘Pet Travel Portal’ ensures you receive regular communication and updates, providing full transparency and peace of mind throughout your trip.
